Precious! We know the thoughts our children have toward us, though they may not always praise us with words. Of course if they said, "You're the best mom in the world" every day, the novelty would wear off a bit.

My father, like yours, was not perfect. He did, however impart to me a solid foundation of love in Christ that I have built the rest of my life on. I trusted him with everything, including my life. He was the best driver, story teller, preacher, builder, protector and father (and he would buy us ice cream cones when we went to look at cars). In my young eyes he could do no wrong. He was and is my hero! Thanks for sharing your memories. DeDe

My Sabbath begins on Saturday at sundown and ends on Sunday at sundown. That way I can start planning for the week. I have to do this since I work at home and homeschool. It is really a discipline to take a break since all my work is here. But I get very excited to see the sun go down on Saturday!!

As a wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, teacher, etc. I find that I am often trying to be "super..." (you pick the role). It is exhausting trying to be great at everything. Then I realized I only need to be great at one thing, that is in my relationship with Christ the others will then fall into place. The first thing God asked me to do was slow down and rest in Him. This book taught me how to REST in order to do any of the roles well.

How about sabbath/rest as a life attitude, a way to view our relationship with God holistically? We need to quit working so hard and so continually to please God -- it's not necessary, and it doesn't achive our ends anyway (God isn't impressed). Holiness as something you are, first and foremost, so that what you do is holy, because you are acting out who you are.

Many years ago we were also challenged by several books we read on the Sabbath. We try to keep the day set apart from the busy-ness of the week. We have a "no tv or video games rule" on Sundays and we love it!

When I grew up we always went out to eat as a family after Church on Sunday. Then we came home and spent the day together as a family, playing board games, etc. It's something that I need to start in my own family. I work from home and I have promised my kids that on Sunday I am all there's for the day! No computer, well until they go to bed!:)
It is a great reminder that we should spend the sabbath reflecting on God/Christ and be with family and friends.

This book sounds very interesting to me...not "doing" so that you can rest. I think we can all learn from her knowledge. When I grew up we always had a wonderful Sunday dinner after church and sometimes my Mother would invite people over to join us; sometimes they would even take a nap on our couch! :) They must have felt relaxed! That is a testament to my Mother's hospitality. Good memories.
